DC-based New Columbia Solar will soon start the installation of 884KW of building-integrated solar panels for Audi Stadium, the new home for the D.C. United Soccer team. Located near the Navy Yard, the stadium is scheduled to open Saturday, July 14. The solar installation is slated to begin fall of this year on the stadium’s canopy and throughout the site. This system will provide roughly one million kilowatt hours of solar power annually, enough to offset almost a third of the stadium’s projected electricity usage. “As a local Washington, D.C. company we are thrilled to be a part of the effort to provide clean energy resources to Audi Stadium,” said Mike Healy, CEO of New Columbia Solar.

The installation, along with other energy efficiency measures, is expected to save the team an estimated $125,000 annually in utility bills.
