As the second phase of the three-skyscraper Wolf Point project races towards an anticipated start date in early 2017, more details regarding the riverfront luxury apartment tower known as Wolf Point East have emerged. A recent story by Crain’s Chicago Real Estate Daily has confirmed the previously reported height figure of 66 stories and 750 feet. If that wasn’t enough, the report included two updated images of the upcoming tower. Designed Connecticut-based architect Pelli Clarke Pelli, the new look trades the bowlike curve of the older Wolf Point place-holder design for strong rectangular verticality plus a bit of Chicago’s recent “sliced minimalism” trend tossed in for good measure.

The east tower will include 707 dwelling units, 198 parking spaces, 40,000 square feet of amenity space, and 3,000 square feet of ground floor retail, according to a statement released by the AFL-CIO Building Investment Trust (BIT), who will invest an unspecified amount of dough in the project. The trust, which re-invests union retirement plans and pensions in real estate projects, poured $34 million into the $160 million Wolf Point West tower that opened earlier this year. With an estimated cost of approximately $360 million, Wolf Point East is scheduled to be completed by December 2019. The glassy tower will join River Point and150 N. Riverside as the third 700-foot-plus skyscraper to rise at the confluence of the Chicago River’s north, south, and main branches in recent years. The final phase of the Wolf Point project, a 70-story mixed-use office/residential tower known as Wolf Point South, has no public timeline but is anticipated to soar at least 900 feet above River North.
