Robert Zmudzinski to Lead National Rail Systems at WSP

NEW YORK, NY — Robert Zmudzinski has been appointed vice president and national rail systems engineering manager in the New York office of WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy.     

            In his new role, Zmudzinski will lead the firm’s transit and rail systems engineering team and support business development across the United States. 

            Zmudzinski has more than three decades of varied transit and rail industry expertise, including work on projects for the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), Los Angeles Metro, Chicago Transit Authority, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, Amtrak and agencies outside of the U.S. He served as the systems integration manager of the $4 billion MTA Second Avenue Subway Project and was the project executive for a PANYNJ project to harden and protect the agency’s infrastructure from events that could compromise the PATH system.

            “Robert is a proficient rail systems manager with a successful track record defining and executing strategy, managing programs and projects, improving process, and engaging stakeholders,” said Julie D’Orazio, senior vice president and WSP’s national market leader for transit and rail. “He has hands-on experience in the design and installation of the rail systems, serving in a variety of roles including owner, contractor and designer. Robert provides a unique perspective to the development and deployment of systems in the rail environment.”

            WSP is a leader in the development high-speed rail systems and is currently part of the project teams for similar projects in Texas, California and internationally. The firm is rail delivery partner to the California High-Speed Rail Authority for a statewide high-speed rail system, and is providing engineering support for the Texas Bullet Train between Houston and Dallas. The firm is also contributing to the development of rail systems in Seattle; Los Angeles; Salt Lake City; Phoenix; Chicago; Durham, North Carolina; and Buffalo, New York.
