Video: Two State Projects Earn Top Awards In National Transportation Contest
Sponsored by AAA, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, the 2021 America’s Transportation Awards competition has presented its final two awards. This year’s contest began with 80 project nominations from 25 state departments of transportation. After four regional competitions, the 12 highest-scoring projects earned the right to compete for the final two prizes. An independent panel of industry judges selected the Grand Prize winner, and the project receiving the highest number of online votes from the public earned the People’s Choice Award.
Watch as 2020-2021 AASHTO President Victoria Sheehan presents North Carolina DOT with the National Grand Prize and Kansas DOT with the People’s Choice Award. Sheehan made the presentations at the AASHTO Annual Meeting in San Diego, October 28, 2021. Both prizes came with $10,000 checks to be presented to a charity or scholarship program of the winner’s choosing.
