DALLAS – Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC), the Comprehensive Long-term Environmental Action Navy (CLEAN) program contractor, is part of the Navy’s team that has received the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) award, the Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) award and the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) award for Environmental Restoration Team at Vieques for its cleanup efforts in Puerto Rico.

The environmental restoration awards honor individuals, teams, ships and installations for their outstanding achievements and innovative work to protect the environment while sustaining mission readiness. Honorees demonstrate excellence in maintaining and restoring natural resources for future generations.

The former Atlantic Fleet Weapons training area in Vieques served as the Navy’s premier training range for ensuring combat readiness of U.S. Atlantic Fleet Forces and for North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) operations. Vieques was named the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico’s highest priority for cleanup.

“Jacobs is proud to support the Navy’s remediation efforts in Puerto Rico,” said Jacobs Aerospace, Technology, Environmental and Nuclear Senior Vice President for Global Environmental Solutions Jan Walstrom. “The team’s innovative strategies for addressing the impacts of decades of military training are creating a safe environmental footprint for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.”

Jacobs provided accelerated cleanup and innovative restoration strategies, including advanced geophysical classification and remote technologies, risk reduction and green remediation. The former installation is now part of the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge houses a variety of natural resources, including subtropical dry forests, lagoons and coral reefs, and endangered species such as sea turtles, manatees and brown pelicans. These awards support Jacobs strategy to be a comprehensive solutions provider to national governments on critical restoration programs.
