DENVER – Jason Orme joined HNTB Corporation’s national rail systems team as senior project manager, providing technical oversite with focus on wayside equipment and interface for positive train control systems. He is based in the firm’s Denver office and works with clients nationwide.

Orme has nearly 20 years of experience in electronics engineering and intelligent control systems. He is a proven validation test team leader, and has extensive domain and product knowledge on wayside and car-borne product lines.

“Great progress has been made in PTC compliance, but there is much work to be done to meet the looming 2018 federal deadline,” said Ian Choudri, HNTB national rail and transit business development director and senior vice president. “Jason provides our clients with technical counsel and expertise as PTC roll out moves through installation and testing.”

Prior to joining HNTB, he was a key contributor to the development of the GE Transportation Intelligent Control Systems validation and systems engineering processes and procedures. Additionally, he served as validation test team lead for wayside product developments and on multiple Incremental Train Control System projects.

Orme earned a Bachelor of Science in electronics engineering technology from the DeVry Institute of Technology. He has completed several certification and training programs, including Six Sigma Green Belt Certification and wayside railroad signalman training.

PTC is a train control technology intended to prevent train-to-train collisions, overspeed derailments, incursions into established work zone limits, and the movement of a train through misaligned track switches. In late 2015, Congress extended the deadline for implementation to Dec. 31, 2018. HNTB is providing a range of planning, design, implementation and support activities on PTC projects in an advisory capacity nationally and for transit agencies around the country.

HNTB’s PTC projects include RTD (Denver); Brightline express passenger rail service between Miami and Orlando; Central Florida Rail Corridor/SunRail; New Jersey Transit; and Sound Transit (Seattle) among others. Work being performed includes signal engineering, rail-highway grade crossing systems, communication engineering, safety engineering, quality assurance and project management.
