Crews have finished installing the stay cables on the westbound span of the new Tappan Zee Bridge, the first portion of the bridge set to open later this year.
The last of the 96 stay cables, the long metal strands hung off the new bridge’s main span towers to suspend the road deck over the deepest part of the Hudson River, was installed last week on the Rockland-bound span, leaving a small gap in the main span.
