GlobalData announces top M&A financial and legal advisers in power sector during Q1 2024

GlobalData has announced the latest updates to its Financial and Legal Adviser League Tables, which rank advisers by the total value and volume of merger and acquisition (M&A) deals they advised on in the power sector during Q1 2024. See the rankings and findings below.

Financial Advisers

 Goldman Sachs and Lazard top M&A financial advisers in power sector during Q1 2024

Goldman Sachs and Lazard were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) financial advisers in the power sector during the first quarter (Q1) of 2024 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest financial advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database revealed that Goldman Sachs achieved its leading position in terms of value by advising on $6.3 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Lazard led in terms of volume by advising on a total of eight deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Goldman Sachs retained the top position by value in Q1 2024 from Q1 2023, even though there was a drop in the total value of deals advised by it. Apart from leading by value, Goldman Sachs also occupied the fifth position by volume.

“Meanwhile, Lazard registered an improvement in the number of deals advised as well as its ranking by deal volume in Q1 2024 compared to Q1 2023. It went ahead from occupying the sixth position by volume in Q1 2023 to top the chart by this metric in Q1 2024. Apart from leading by volume, Lazard also occupied the second position in terms of value in Q1 2024.”

Lazard occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $3.4 billion worth of deals, followed by HSBC with $3.2 billion whereas Citi, Mizuho Financial Group and Santander Group jointly occupied the fourth position by value, advising on deals worth $3 billion each.

Meanwhile, Rothschild & Co occupied the second position in terms of volume with five deals, followed by KPMG with five deals, Guggenheim Partners with four deals and Goldman Sachs with three deals.

 Legal Advisers

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and Vinson & Elkins top M&A legal advisers in power sector during Q1 2024 

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and Vinson & Elkins were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the power sector during the first quarter (Q1) of 2024 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database revealed that Morgan, Lewis & Bockius achieved its leading position in terms of value by advising on $5.6 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Vinson & Elkins led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 10 deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Vinson & Elkins was the top adviser by volume in Q1 2023 and managed to retain its leadership position by this metric in Q1 2024 as well. It was the only adviser to hit double-digit deal volume during Q1 2024. Apart from leading by volume, Vinson & Elkins also occupied the second position by value during Q1 2024.”

“Meanwhile, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius saw its ranking by value improve from the fifth position in Q1 2023 to the top position in Q1 2024. Apart from leading by value, it also occupied the seventh position by volume in Q1 2024.”

Vinson & Elkins occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $4.8 billion worth of deals, followed by Kirkland & Ellis with $4 billion, Debevoise & Plimpton with $3.2 billion, and McGuire Woods with $3 billion.

Meanwhile, Latham & Watkins occupied the second position in terms of volume with nine deals, followed by White & Case with five deals, Kirkland & Ellis with four deals, and CMS with four deals.
