Enterprising leader and environmental compliance expert will advance WSP’s ‘One Water’ vision.

DENVER, February 6, 2024 — WSP, a leading engineering, environment and professional services consultancy, hired Peter Cohlmia as national wastewater market lead in the U.S., a role aimed at advancing the firm’s lifecycle approach to managing water resources.

Communities across the U.S. need better ways to achieve their water resilience goals and Peter brings to our team an industry-leading understanding of high-quality project delivery, contract compliance, client relationships, and business development in the water market,” said Tyler Jones, senior vice president and U.S. business line executive for Water at WSP. “Peter is focused on developing cross-business line strategies for the water market as it relates to our ‘One Water’ vision.”

Prior to WSP, Cohlmia’s 30-year career with global engineering consulting firms has been dedicated to leading growth strategies in the water and wastewater sectors, both domestically and internationally. He has led municipal business development efforts, client services, project delivery and contract management activities, as well as industrial work in oil and gas, mining and electric utilities.

“I’m eager to join WSP and help the firm accelerate its One Water approach in support of our clients,” Cohlmia said. “The opportunity to work with this talented team to deliver Future Ready® solutions for a sustainable, water-secure future is what attracted me to this role.”

Cohlmia, based in Denver, is a graduate of the University of Nebraska with a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and business, and a master’s degree in environmental science and engineering. He is a member of the American Water Works Association and the Water Environment Foundation.

WSP provides innovative solutions and technologies to support municipal and industrial clients with collection system planning and design, treatment, wastewater tunnels, reclamation and reuse across the U.S. Examples include support for design, construction, operations and maintenance for one of the largest reuse projects of its kind in the U.S, using reclaimed water for large-scale agriculture irrigation. In California, WSP helped design a state-of-the-art water reclamation facility to create a drought-resistant water source and produce up to 10 million gallons of recycled water a day. WSP also is working on small system lead and copper rule compliance in Colorado, and four wastewater treatment projects for the Navajo Nation in New Mexico.
