CALVERTON, Md., USA: Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, is pleased to announce its National Director for All-Hazards Resilience, Maria Honeycutt, PhD, CFM has been appointed to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s (NASEM’s) Resilient America Roundtable. Dr. Honeycutt is a nationally recognized subject matter expert and trusted executive advisor on climate and weather hazards, floodplain management and multi-hazard risk reduction.

“I am honored to be joining some of our nation’s foremost experts and true thought leaders on resilience,” said Dr. Honeycutt. “During my government service, we relied greatly on the Roundtable and its reports and convenings to help us more fully understand the resilience challenges facing communities, and to help us strategize and foster partnerships – many of which are still in place today. I’m excited to contribute the needs and perspectives of our clients and our industry to the Roundtable’s work.”

Prior to joining Atkins, Dr. Honeycutt spent 14 years with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), including three detailed as the all-hazards resilience lead at the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy. Dr. Honeycutt leads Atkin’s all-hazard resilience strategy for clients in the U.S., identifying ways to maximize the resilience benefits of their investments across critical infrastructure, cybersecurity, health, housing, economic development and environment.

The Resilient America Roundtable convenes experts from the academic, public and private sectors to help communities and the nation build resilience to extreme events, save lives and reduce the physical and economic costs of disasters at local, regional, national and international levels. The Roundtable is a core part of the NASEM’s Resilient America Program.

The NASEM is a private, non-profit organization created in 1863 under congressional charter and signed by President Abraham Lincoln to provide independent policy advice for the U.S. Government on science and technology matters. Its service to government has become so essential that on multiple occasions Congress and the White House have issued legislation and executive orders reaffirming its unique role.

Dr. Honeycutt will get her first opportunity to participate as a full member when the Roundtable meets in Washington, D.C. on January 24-25.
