Crescent Communities Completes Topping Out at Elizabeth on Seventh

Mixed-use retail and speculative office community in Charlotte’s Elizabeth neighborhood will now begin interior and exterior construction


Charlotte, N.C. – Today, Crescent Communities, a nationally-recognized, market-leading real estate investor, developer, and operator of mixed-use and commercial communities, announces the completion of structural construction, or “topping out,” at Elizabeth on Seventh, a retail and office community located at 1942 East 7th Street. The 103,500 square foot mixed-use community will now undergo construction to the interior walls and façade of the standing structure. 

During the structural construction process, completed in tandem with Choate Construction, approximately 600 tons of structural steel were used with 35,000-man hours worked by over 40 different subcontractor and vendor partners. 

“Once the steel and concrete decks are complete, metal stud framing and masonry veneer begins. The scaffolding and essential access points along the building façade will make an already tight project site even more challenging,” says Jordan Johnson, Choate Project Manager. “Our team is looking forward to conquering these challenges, and we can’t wait to see this new feature of the Elizabeth neighborhood come to fruition.”

As construction to the interior and exterior of the building begins, residents of the historic Elizabeth neighborhood can expect to see a façade come to life, featuring a mix of timeless materials such as brick, masonry, metal, wood, and glass. Inside, tenants and visitors alike will find offices that boast a combination of floor-to-ceiling glass windows and a minimum of 10-foot ceilings to maximize views and provide an abundance of natural light. Additionally, column-free floor plates will allow for flexible space planning and a second-floor balcony is planned to overlook North Caswell Road, while a 4th floor balcony will offer views of Uptown.

With office and ground-floor retail space, the pedestrian-friendly community will include modern design with public art throughout, a courtyard, a first-floor tenant lounge, and three outdoor terraces for collaboration beyond the office. Convenient garage parking will be available, with entry points on East 7th Street and North Caswell Road. 

Elizabeth on Seventh is being developed in a joint venture with Faison Enterprises. BB&T now Truist, provides construction financing, Choate Construction serves as the general contractor, BB+M as the project architect, and LandDesign as the civil engineer and landscape architect.
