Kalamazoo, MI – Seven Generations Architecture + Engineering (7GAE), a leading tribally-owned architecture, engineering, and design firm, earned four awards out of four submissions to the 2020 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Southwest Michigan Design Awards.

“I’m so proud of the quality of our work, as well as the diversity of our design,” says Steve VandenBussche, vice president of practice at 7GAE. “To feel good about submitting four very different projects, and for all four to be awarded, is very gratifying. We’ve never wanted to be known for one thing. We solve problems and enhance human experiences across many different project types. That’s what gets me excited.”

Seven Generations A+E submitted four projects to the 2020 AIA SWM Design Awards. Two design submissions received Honor Awards: The Leadership Camp Treehouses and the Arcadia Festival Place Master Plan, both of which were designed specifically for Southwest Michigan. Merit Awards were received by 7GAE for an Indiana Private Residence as well as the 78,000 square foot Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe D1 Health Clinic in Onamia, Minnesota.

The four designs showcase the firm’s wide range of experience across healthcare, housing, tribal projects, and master planning. As is true for most 7GAE projects, these award-winning designs provide meaningful ways to bring together communities and enhance quality of life through the built environment.

“Our success is built on the talent, ideas, and hard work of our employees,” says President Karl Kowalske. “We believe design and innovation play key roles in helping our clients be successful. Being recognized by our peers reinforces this passion for us.”

Seven Generations A+E is part of the Bodwé Group, which is tribally owned by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi. In addition to 7GAE, Bodwé is comprised of Blue Star Integrative Studio, The Steelhead Engineering Co., and WBK Engineering. Whether working independently or collaboratively, each firm delivers the kind of high-quality work that earned 7GAE four design awards from the AIA SWM.
