Scarangello, P.E., chairman and CEO of Thornton Tomasetti. “While different in scope and responsibility, these four roles will foster increased knowledge sharing and creative teamwork across the firm’s 10 practices. With Thornton Tomasetti’s deep talent bench and the strength of our collaborative business model, we are well on our way to reaching our goal to be the global driver of change and innovation in our industry.”
As managing directors, Panariello and DiMaggio will focus on the strategic growth of the firm’s practices through collaboration and talent development. As members of the senior leadership team, they will contribute to the development and execution of Thornton Tomasetti’s five-year plan, ensuring that practice objectives are aligned with the firm’s strategic goals. Their responsibilities include overseeing business development initiatives, such as exploring new markets, client relationships and geographic locations; identifying merger and acquisition opportunities; and instituting mentorship and formal professional development programs.
Panariello is a member of Thornton Tomasetti’s board of directors and is based in the firm’s San Francisco office. He has more than 20 years of experience in research and in the design, investigation and construction of complex structures, with a specialty in the dynamics of structures subjected to earthquakes, hurricanes and other natural or man-made events. He holds Ph.D. and masters’ degrees in civil engineering and engineering mechanics from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in physics and astronomy from The Johns Hopkins University.
DiMaggio, who was recently elected to Thornton Tomasetti’s board of directors, is based in the firm’s New York, Wall Street office. He is a recognized expert in special structures and protective design and directs many of the firm’s more high-profile and challenging projects worldwide. During his 20-plus-year career, he has been involved in the design and structural hardening of more than 40 U.S. embassies, federal facilities and courthouses. DiMaggio holds a master’s degree in structural engineering and bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering and the humanities from Columbia University.
As chief technology officer, Otani will take on broader responsibility for the firm’s overall strategy in technology outreach and development. He will work closely with Chief Information Officer Jim Dray to advance innovations that will benefit Thornton Tomasetti’s clients as well as help the firm drive innovation in the AEC industry. He will continue to be based in New York City.
Otani has played a key role in the development of CORE studio, Thornton Tomasetti’s research and development incubator, and has become a recognized thought-leader on automation and computational modeling. He also co-manages the firm’s R&D portfolio and serves as an advisor to Thornton Tomasetti’s innovation accelerator, TTWiiN. Otani earned a master’s degree in civil engineering from Pennsylvania State University and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Rutgers University.
The transition to chief quality assurance officer is a natural one for Post, who has served as a leader in the firm’s standards and quality assurance/quality control committees and has played a key role in the development of the QAQC protocol in the Structural Engineering practice. Post, who is based in the firm’s Chicago office, has more than 30 years of structural engineering experience across a range of project types and market sectors.
Reporting to Thornton Tomasetti’s board, she will oversee and manage QAQC protocols so that the firm’s broad, innovative work continues to be a model for collaborative excellence. She will also interface externally with industry professionals and organizations to ensure that Thornton Tomasetti’s program meets or exceeds industry established best practices. Post holds a master’s degree in structural engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Northwestern University.
