AASHTO Names Swallow as Planning Committee Chair

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials named Kristina Swallow (seen above), director of the Nevada Department of Transportation, to serve as the chair of its Committee on Planning for a two-year term.

A 25-year veteran of the civil engineering industry, Swallow served as the president of the American Society of Civil Engineers before being tapped to be Nevada DOT’s director in January 2019.

Swallow’s engineering career includes a five-year stint owning her own consulting business – AVP Consulting Inc. – that provided flood control, traffic impact, and air quality analyses and studies to support land development projects throughout the Las Vegas Valley.

She also spent three years in Washington D.C. as a transportation policy advisor to Sen. Tom Udall, D-New Mexico, providing analysis and recommendations on a number of key legislation packages including the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century or MAP-21 and the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bills.
