The Charleston Regional Aviation Authority (CRAA) recently celebrated the topping out of the West Gates Expansion at Charleston International Airport (CHS) in North Charleston, South Carolina. The $105M two-level west concourse adds 40,000 square feet of passenger space and four new gates to the airport, including space for retail, dining, passenger hold rooms, restrooms, and international arrivals. RMF Engineering is providing full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering services through all phases of design.
The project is part of the airport’s Terminal Area Plan and Validation Report, which identified the need for expanded facilities to accommodate growing aircraft and passenger demand. As a result, the facility is being designed to deliver efficient, reliable, and cost-effective infrastructure to support Charleston International Airport’s continued growth. Completion is expected by the end of 2026.
