The University of South Carolina (USC) has opened a new Brain Health Center aimed at expanding access to specialized care for patients with cognitive conditions. RMF Engineering provided MEP and fire protection design for the project, supporting modern clinical, research, and imaging environments within a high-performance, sustainable facility. Alongside USC, RMF celebrated the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 18, 2026.
Located on the University’s Health Sciences Campus, the reimagined 65,000-square-foot Brain Health Center features state-of-the-art technology and clinical and research spaces. Designed with patient care and comfort at the forefront, the outpatient facility offers 16 exam, testing, and treatment rooms; an eight-bay infusion room for therapeutic treatments; and spaces dedicated to physical, occupational, and speech therapy. The center is powered by the latest technology and tools, including South Carolina’s first 7-Tesla and 3-Tesla MRI scanners that are more than twice as powerful as standard scanners.
The Brain Health Center serves as the central hub of USC’s statewide Brain Health Network, which includes brain health clinics and a neurological and rehabilitation hospital—another project supported by RMF—providing timely cognitive screenings, evaluations, and community-based support services for patients in seven underserved areas across South Carolina. The facility also aids the growth of USC’s research into brain-based disorders, supporting advancements in both treatment and understanding of brain health. The project is pursuing a Two Globes rating under the Green Globes environmental certification system.
