President Trump announced his nominee to become general counsel at the U.S. Department of Transportation, while the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee advanced nominees for a senior USDOT post and to fill a seat on the National Transportation Safety Board.

The president named attorney Steven Bradbury to be the USDOT's general counsel, and said that from 2005 to 2009 he headed the Office of Legal Counsel at the Department of Justice.

Bradbury is currently a litigation partner at Dechert LLP in Washington, D.C. The White House also said he "has extensive experience with automotive safety and airline competition issues, including before the Department of Transportation."

The Commerce Committee held a nominations hearing June 8 that included Derek Kan, Trump's nominee as USDOT undersecretary for policy, and Robert Sumwalt for another five-year term as a member of the NTSB to Dec. 16, 2021. The president on March 31 designated him as the board's vice chairman. The hearing precedes a committee vote to send the nominations to the full Senate for confirmation.

In addition, the Senate has before it the nomination of Adam Sullivan to be assistant secretary of transportation for government affairs.

So far, the president has not offered nominations for any of the USDOT's open modal administrator positions, including those for the highway, transit and rail agencies.
