Thornton Tomasetti, the international engineering firm, has received the Consulting Engineering Firm of the Year Award from the American Institute of Architects Miami Chapter. The award, which recognizes significant contributions to the advancement of building engineering was presented to Thornton Tomasetti’s Miami office at the AIA Miami Design Awards gala on October 28 at the Little Haiti Cultural Center.

The Miami office, which opened this past February, is led locally by Associate Principal Brad Malmsten, P.E., who heads Thornton Tomasetti’s Structural Engineering practice in Florida, and Associate Principal Matthew Olender, P.E., LEED AP, who also oversees the Fort Lauderdale office.

• The AIA Miami Board of Directors’ 2016 Honor Awards program seeks recognize achievements in design, construction and public service related to architecture, the building arts and urban design. Award candidates are nominated by AIA Miami members with the winners chosen by an awards committee.

• This is the first time the consulting engineering award has been presented to a firm, rather than an individual.

• Among Thornton Tomasetti’s recent Miami-area projects are the renovation of the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins National Football League (NFL) team, in Miami Gardens; a new municipal and educational facility for the City of Sunny Isles Beach; and the 54-story Ritz Carlton Residences condominium tower, also in Sunny Isles Beach.
