Schenkel Shultz Nears Completion of the Osceola County School for the Arts Remodel and Addition Project

Orlando, FL – April 6, 2026 – Schenkel Shultz, a leading Central Florida architectural and interior design studio, is completing a major remodel and addition at the Osceola County School for the Arts (OCSA) campus, with the new classroom building now open and the renovated theater scheduled to open in April 2026. This marks the firm’s second collaboration at OCSA, following the original design that converted the campus from the Tupperware Auditorium and Convention Center into a purpose-built cultural arts school that redefines creative learning.

Through strategic adaptive design, a single-purpose venue has evolved into an interconnected ecosystem where theater, music, dance, visual arts, and technical production converge. The main theatre and black box theatre are being modernized with advanced audiovisual systems, rigging, and new back-of-house facilities—including a costume design shop and scene construction workshop—creating an intimate, acoustically optimized venue for performances, exhibitions, and showcases that support both instruction and creative expression.

Driven by the school’s renowned arts and academic programs, enrollment growth outpaced the original cafeteria’s capacity. The design team repurposed the underutilized Expo Hall into a 7,000 square-foot cafeteria. Repurposed areas of the original OCSA campus now accommodate band, orchestra, and choral programs as well as a jazz orchestra room, three dance studios, a keyboard lab, and remodeled administration suite.

Spanning three stories, the new academic building introduces much-needed permanent classrooms and lab spaces, carefully designed to support both traditional academics and the arts. Student work animates the campus, transforming it into a dynamic gallery that celebrates creativity and excellence. At the heart of the courtyard, a social stair encourages collaboration and community, serving as both a gathering place for informal performances and an outdoor amphitheater for events.

“For more than two decades, the Oscoela County School for the Arts has cultivated some of Central Florida’s most talented young artists across visual, performing, and theatrical disciplines,” said Patrick Rauch, AIA, Principal at Schenkel Shultz. “Our collaboration with the School District of Osceola County reimagines a campus that honors this legacy, strengthening its academic foundation and supporting spaces where students can learn, create, and perform at the highest level.”
