Firm expands Western region presence and establishes a permanent foothold in Colorado
Denver, CO — June 2026 — Today, global architecture and design firm HLW announces the official opening of its Denver office, marking a strategic expansion of the firm’s Western region practice and a long-term investment in Colorado’s rapidly evolving built environment.
Located at 1801 California Street, Suite 2400, the Denver office is led by Sejal Sonani, AIA, Managing Partner, who has spent the past decade widening HLW’s footprint across the Western United States. She holds licensure in Colorado, California, Washington, and New York. Under Sonani's purview, this new local foothold will support the firm’s portfolio in Denver while positioning HLW to better serve clients in the mixed-use development, technology, commercial office, multifamily, hospitality, media/entertainment, and life sciences sectors throughout the region.
“Over the last five years, HLW has moved strategically into new markets across the country, following our long-standing client partners as they seek out new opportunities, allowing us to advance equitable, socially responsible, and sustainable change through our work. Denver has emerged as a major center for growth, talent, and innovation, making it a natural next step for our firm,” said Sonani. “Having a dedicated office here allows us to work more closely with the vibrant communities and growing industries that are driving the city's future.”
HLW’s local presence builds on active work in downtown Denver, including the radical adaptive reuse of 621 17th St. and 633 17th St. for The Luzzato Company, converting the combined 970,000-square-feet of commercial office space into 'High Fidelity,' an exciting mixed-use, multifamily community. The transformation will breathe new life into the block in one of the largest office-to-residential conversions west of New York, bringing approximately 700 rental apartments, ground-floor retail, and community amenity spaces, such as a bodega, coffee shop, children’s museum, child care center, and bookstore, to benefit both residents and neighbors. The Downtown Denver Development Authority recently approved $63 million to support the project, which is estimated to cost $315 million total.
The Denver office operates as part of HLW’s fully integrated, cross-office model, bringing together architecture, landscape, interior design, and planning, as well as sustainability and wellness strategy, lighting design, branding, and market research through its in-house specialty service studios: Ark, BEYOND, brandx, and Spark. This multidisciplinary approach supports projects from early feasibility through design and delivery, particularly as owners and developers navigate changing market and workplace demands.
As part of the office opening, HLW has begun hiring local architects and designers, including Senior Interior Designer Cally Dalton, who has 15 years of industry experience in the Denver market, and will continue growing its Denver-based team in the coming months.
HLW is one of the longest continuously operating architecture practices in the United States. The Denver office reflects the firm’s broader growth strategy, establishing local teams in markets where development momentum and long-term investment remain strong.
