STATEN ISLAND, NYProject Hospitality and The Hudson Companies today celebrated the ribbon-cutting of Castleton Supportive Housing, a 48-unit affordable housing development in the Port Richmond neighborhood on the North Shore of Staten Island. Financing was provided through the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) Supportive Housing Loan Program, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits from HPD syndicated by Richman Housing Resources, construction debt from JP Morgan Chase, and permanent financing from Merchants Bank.

Located at 1546 Castleton Avenue in Port Richmond, Staten Island, the six-story building consists of 31 permanent supportive homes, 16 affordable homes for households earning 60 percent of the area median income, and one unit for the building super. Project Hospitality, a Staten Island-based non-profit provider for the homeless, will operate a ground-floor community center and provide residents with on-site supportive services, including employment assistance, educational opportunities, and physical and emotional benefits.

“Hudson is honored to join its partners, Project Hospitality, the City of New York, and the project’s design and engineering team in celebrating the opening of Castleton Supportive Housing. Today’s ribbon-cutting is a testament to our commitment to building affordable housing and providing supportive services for all New Yorkers,” said Marlee Busching-Truscott, Development Director of Hudson Companies. “We take great pride in developing much-needed affordable housing and providing critical social services for families in Staten Island. We also want to thank our city partners for their ongoing support and collaboration in making this vision a reality.”

“Project Hospitality is incredibly proud of this joint venture to bring affordable and supportive housing to State Island,” said Jaclyn Stoll, Executive Director of Project Hospitality. “This building is not just bricks and mortar; it’s a cornerstone of hope, a foundation for dreams, and a testament to the mission of PH, which strives to ensure every individual has a place to call home.”

“We’re thrilled to be opening Castleton Supportive Housing—it will not only bring affordable housing to the North Shore, but also job training, educational opportunities, as well as physical and emotional support,” says HPD Commissioner Adolfo Carrión Jr. “Coming on the heels of recent announcements to reshape the future of State Island’s North Shore, Castleton serves as the catalyst to creating a vibrant and affordable community.”

“We believe that quality, inviting design can and should be available to people of all backgrounds,” said Amie Gross AIA, President of Amie Gross Architects. “It is an honor to be part of this exciting moment for Staten Island and the residents of Castleton. An important part of the AGA mission is to help cities recapture their neighborhood-oriented focus. The design of the entire development – from the residential units to the community center – helps to promote that sense of belonging and comfort. Through community-inspired buildings and interior spaces, we are advancing our vision of a more equitable and inclusive urban environment.”

Castleton Supportive Housing will offer an array of amenities to its residents, including an on-site resident manager, a shared laundry room, a resident lounge with outdoor space, a fitness room, bike storage, and a ground-floor community center.

The building is conveniently located within a short walk from MTA bus lines S53, SIM33C, and SIM3C.
