Released on May 30, 2023, Trimble® Business Center (TBC) version 5.90 software further advances capabilities targeted specifically at integrated and streamlined data management in our increasingly data-abundant ecosystem.

The large volumes of data that are readily available from modern systems—high-resolution cameras, high-speed scanners and mobile mapping technology—can overwhelm computing and storage capabilities.

TBC version 5.90 emphasizes features and functionality that automate tasks, simplify data processing and better connect actionable information to project team members, stakeholders and communities.

Download TBC version 5.90 here and read the entire list of new features in the release notes.  Read on for a highlight of the top new features in automation, more connectivity to other systems and added processing power.

Automated Functionality

TBC has long been a powerful takeoff and monitoring tool, calculating earthwork and material quantities for bids, preparing data for construction stakeout, building 3D models to optimize machine operation, tracking productivity and delivering first-class as-built documentation. The latest release builds on those capabilities.

Mobile mapping batch processing

Delegate mobile mapping tasks to the batch processing engine. Long pre-processing operations like scans generation, classification and colorization can be automatically performed in overnight TBC sessions, for single or multiple mobile mapping missions. The batch processing engine can also convert the raw mobile mapping data in the formats supported by the mobile mapping data exporters. Single or multiple mobile mapping missions will be automatically prepared for the following production duties.

Simplified point cloud stockpile extraction

With the point cloud stockpile extraction feature in TBC version 5.90, users have the ability to automatically generate stockpile boundaries and calculate volumes; no manual interaction is needed. Simply execute the command by selecting the general location of the stockpile in the point cloud and TBC will generate the stockpile boundary, calculate volumes and create reports with volume, date, slope area and base area.

Stockpile volume calculation simplification and automation.

Point cloud classification and feature extraction

With the implementation of deep learning capabilities, point cloud classifications are of higher quality and feature extraction has higher accuracy. The new release also expands the list of point cloud regions for terrestrial workflows.

Multi-code point feature specifications

Selectively assign feature codes during automatic point extraction. When using the automatic mode for feature point extraction, users can specify a different feature code or additional feature codes for each extracted feature as necessary—instead of assigning the same default feature code to all of them. This enhancement combines the speed of automatic point extraction with the flexibility to assign appropriate feature codes to varying extracted features when necessary.

Enhanced manhole extraction

Manhole diameters are automatically extracted, providing an enhanced detection rate and a lower number of false positives for manhole extraction tasks for more precise determination of manhole centers.

Extract road markings

The extract geometry feature now allows extraction of multiple road markings of the same type within an area of interest (e.g., crosswalks) to remove unnecessary user interaction and increase production speed.

Multi-Sensor Connectivity and Collaborative Ecosystems

TBC version 5.90 builds on longstanding capabilities to bring together multi-sensor data, minimizing the number of file exports and concerns about data fidelity.

Streamline cadastral workflows

Exchange survey data with ESRI Feature Service or postgres database. Push or pull data from public or private sources, hosted in ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Portal, into TBC and experience lossless third-party interoperability.

Expanded third-party UAS support and higher-quality deliverables

The TBC all-in-one aerial photogrammetry software is purpose-built to support a range of fly-to-finish drone applications, from capturing as-built topography to inspections and change detection. The new release offers additional features.

The sensor library in TBC is now extended to any type of drone with geotagged images. For instance, with the new release, users are able to import nadir images from any UAV—including DJI, Microdrones and senseFly. If the sensor is not supported, TBC provides a guide to input basic sensor parameters, such as focal length and pixel size, and will update the library automatically to support the new sensor. Once imported, the adjustment engine facilitates the creation of denser point clouds and higher-resolution orthomosaics than leading competitors.

With new tools to better eliminate bright spots emitted from highly reflective surfaces, enhance geometry in shadow areas, remove moving objects and more, users in TBC version 5.90 will be able to improve their deliverables while working more efficiently.

Further boundary creation is also improved for deliverables. If the user does not select an existing boundary when creating photogrammetry deliverables (instead of the automatic flight block plan for the boundary as in the past), a new boundary is automatically generated that more accurately and efficiently defines the area to be included in the deliverables creation process.

TBC 5.90 also includes the ability to export to the UASMaster module for fully automatic georeferencing, calibration, refinement and analysis.

Power, Process and Speed

TBC version 5.90 continues to improve existing workflows across cadastral, mobile mapping and takeoff/mass-haul while building on industry-standard CAD imports and tailored routines for Trimble and third-party field data formats.

Post-processing kinematic (PPK) GNSS processor

The new PPK GNSS processor built into TBC version 5.90 processes raw kinematic GNSS utilizing all GNSS satellite constellations, which results in a  higher level of accuracy. The implementation of PPK with mobile mapping or aerial GNSS observations, for example, is invaluable to achieving higher accuracies when in heavily wooded or urbanized environments where GNSS signal blockage or higher levels of multipath is inevitable.

Reference view filter manager

Easily change the view settings of a reference file without having to open the reference file separately, which speeds up workflows.

Over-excavation template development

Easily set up a side-slope template to define over-excavation. Over-excavation templates can be saved to project templates for future use and users can define multiple different templates for testing different over-excavation scenarios.
