France, Dec. 5th, 2022 – Acwa Robotics, the French phenomenon that puts the latest advances in autonomous robotics and AI at the service of water supply networks, today announced that it has been named a CES® 2023 Innovation Awards Honoree for Clear Water Pathfinder, the world’s first smart robot capable of navigating and documenting drinking water pipes without interrupting their operation. This year’s CES Innovation Awards program received a record high number of over 2100 submissions. The announcement was made ahead of CES 2023, the world’s most influential technology event, happening Jan. 5-8 in Las Vegas, NV.

The CES Innovation Awards program, owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, is an annual competition honoring outstanding design and engineering in 28 consumer technology product categories. Those with the highest rating receive the “Best of Innovation” distinction. An elite panel of industry expert judges, including members of the media, designers, engineers and more, reviewed submissions based on innovation, engineering and functionality, aesthetic and design.

What is Acwa Robotics?
In a world where preserving water has become a vital issue, and for its first participation in CES, the start-up was awarded 3 Innovation Awards at CES 2023, in the Smart Cities, Sustainability and Human security for all categories. Acwa Robotics was even honored with the ultimate “Best of Innovation” prize by the CES jury, in the Smart Cities category, proving the necessity and urgency of providing practical solutions to the drinking water preservation challenge.

Acwa Robotics combines robotics and Artificial Intelligence to help water utilities optimize the renewal of pipes, improve water quality and drastically reduce losses. Indeed, every year in the US alone, 8.2 billion m3 of drinking water are lost in the supply networks, i.e. between 20 and 40% of the water transported, while droughts and climate change are making the ressource scarcer every year!

The solution, Clean Water Pathfinder, provides an unprecedented precise assessment of the condition of the pipes so that operators know where and when to repair or renew. In its first version, Clean Water Pathfinder accurately identifies and locates areas of wear and tear, and more generally the condition of the network (calcification, ovalization, corrosion…).

JF Rossi, co-founder, explains: “In the long run, we want Acwa Robotics’ robots to be permanently inside the pipes, available to operators, to provide the necessary information at any time. In the longer term, we plan to equip our robots with maintenance and repair capabilities.”

New for CES 2023 — CES has partnered with the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS) to showcase the critical role of technology in support of the United Nations efforts to advance human security around the world. For CES 2023, CTA introduced a new category of Innovation Awards showcasing technologies advancing human rights. The Human Security for All category includes eight new tech subcategories.

The CES 2023 Innovation Awards honorees, including product descriptions and photos, can be found at CES.tech/innovation. More will be revealed in January. Many honorees will showcase their winning products in the Innovation Awards Showcase at CES 2023. Owned and produced by CTA, CES 2023 will take place in Las Vegas on January 5-8, 2023, with Media Days taking place January 3-4, 2023. Attendees will experience new technologies from global brands, hear about the future of technology from thought leaders and collaborate face-to-face with other attendees. The show will highlight how innovations in sustainability, transportation and mobility, digital health, the metaverse and more are addressing the world’s greatest challenges. Audiences will hear from industry experts during live keynotes, including leaders from John Deere and AMD.

About Acwa Robotics:
Founded in 2018 by two French entrepreneurs, JF Rossi and JF Guiderdoni, Acwa Robotics was built out of their experience with the growing water shortages they saw developing in their native villages, on an island where fresh water is normally abundant. This is how they became interested in the issues with the distribution networks and their increasing obsolescence. JF Rossi then had the idea of putting his robotics and tech skills at the service of a solution that could truly revolutionize the world of water. Currently, Acwa has a team of 14 people, including 80% of engineers. After successful experimentations of the first prototype of the “Pathfinder”, the company has just released its first MVP (most viable product) machine and will deploy pilots of this Pathfinder in France and then throughout the world in 2023. Acwa Robotics is targeting a Series A round at the end of 2023.
