OMAHA, Neb. — Paul Wiedefeld has joined HDR as director of the firm’s transportation practice in the Northeast U.S.

Wiedefeld brings four decades of transportation industry experience with half of those years as the CEO of major aviation and transit agencies. As HDR’s Northeast transportation director, he will provide leadership across 14 states from Virginia to Maine, plus the District of Columbia.

Based in Baltimore, Wiedefeld will help set HDR’s transportation strategy in the region and expand the firm’s diverse service lines throughout the Northeast. His responsibilities will also include overseeing the planning and delivery of major regional initiatives and projects for HDR’s transit, aviation, highways, bridges, freight rail and maritime clients.

With experience at the local, regional and state levels in the public sector as well as over a decade of private sector experience, Wiedefeld has an in-depth understanding of the complex operational and policy challenges facing HDR’s transportation clients. Wiedefeld most recently spent seven years as general manager and CEO of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, also known as the DC Metro. Prior to that role, he served as the CEO in charge of Baltimore/Washington International airport.

“I am looking forward to being part of a proven team of topflight professionals who are committed to serving their client’s needs for the betterment of the community,” Wiedefeld said. “My four decades in the industry have provided me a unique understanding and experience in solving complex operational and policy challenges facing the transportation industry and HDR’s clients.”

Active in the industry, Wiedefeld has contributed to conferences, testified before Congress and been a featured speaker for numerous transportation associations. He is a board member of the Washington Airports Task Force, a leader of the Maryland Association of Engineers and advisory board member for the Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers University.

“HDR is dedicated to providing our clients the highest level of service and quality, and Paul shares that vision,” said East Region Transportation Director Eli Khoury. “Paul’s decades of transportation experience and deep knowledge of the needs of our clients will serve them well as we tackle the infrastructure challenges of tomorrow and transform our communities for the better.”
