Kansas City, Mo. – Looking to keep their cities and states safe and healthy, public works officials across North America will gather in Charlotte August 28–31 for the American Public Works Association’s (APWA) annual Public Works Expo (PWX) at the Charlotte Convention Center.

Nearly 6,000 public works professionals—including APWA members from North Carolina—will share the latest in equipment, services, methods, and technologies in the field of public works at the most comprehensive gathering of public works officials, educational workshops and exhibits in North America.

In addition to trending technologies and the latest information on such topics as emergency management, homelessness, transportation safety, and water resiliency, PWX 2022 brings in field experts and consultants to share their knowledge and vision in more than 155 educational, technical and management sessions.

“This year’s PWX is expected to be one of our most well-attended. Our members are hungry for education and the chance to network in person with one another. I’m so excited to be finishing up my tenure as APWA president with such an impressive event,” said APWA President and Franklinville resident Stan Brown, PE, PWLF.

Highlights of PWX 2022 include:

  • On Monday, Aug. 29, APWA Chapter Roadeo champions from across North America will compete in the annual APWA National Equipment Roadeo on South Brevard Street, between the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the Charlotte Convention Center. Each competitor will run either a backhoe or a mini excavator (or both) to compete for the championship.
  • Over 400 companies involved in building America’s infrastructure will occupy 82,000 square feet of exhibit space, including manufacturers of such products as fabric structures, street sweepers, snowplows, drainage systems, and asset management technologies.
  • Featured speakers at the General Sessions include Seth Mattison, an internationally recognized thought leader, author, advisor, and top-rated keynote speaker on change and innovation, sales and influence, leadership, and the future of work; and Julia Landauer, the first American woman to earn a podium spot in the NASCAR Euro Series, and the first female champion of the NASCAR Track Championship, Motor Mile Euro Series. Mattison and Landauer will speak Aug. 28 and Aug. 31, respectively.
  • Tuesday, August 30, begins with a General Session focused on exploring workforce innovations in public works. Panelists will share how they are addressing current workforce challenges, including innovative ways they are attracting talent or removing employment barriers for underrepresented populations.
