Custom Werk-Brau Bucket and Thumb Simplifies Coil Handling Application
(Findlay, OH) Werk-Brau recently designed and built a custom materials handling package for picking and placing large coiled pieces of stainless steel with a Volvo EC350 excavator. The package, which includes a D-lock multi-pin grabber coupler, custom thumb, and custom bucket, was designed and tested with the latest CAD and FEA software, then built to exacting standards. A custom thumb with serrated tines grips the coiled steel pieces more securely, while the 1.75-cubic-yard bucket includes thicker side plates for more support and longer service life, and ribs for extra support.
“Our in-house design and engineering team worked closely with the customer and the dealer to understand this material handling application,” said VP of Sales Dale DeWeese. “They did a great job on the design and with their on-screen testing to validate it. The shop team then brought the drawings to life in short order. It was a real team effort that showcases our capabilities to design and build custom buckets for our dealers and customers.”
Werk-Brau engineers worked with the local Volvo dealer Rudd Equipment, along with their end customer who made the initial request for the custom bucket.
