Skanska named an international leader in sustainability

Parul Dubey on May 18, 2022 - in Corporate, News

Skanska has been named a “Climate Leader” in Europe as the result of a joint initiative between the Financial Times and the data insight company Statista. Existing emissions data from 4,000 companies as well as actions for reducing carbon emissions were reviewed, taking a range of criteria linked to verifiable data into account. Only 10 percent of the companies reviewed qualified for the list.

“We have set the bar high. Skanska’s climate target is to reduce our own emissions by 70 percent between 2015 and 2030. Since 2015, we have succeeded in reducing our carbon emissions by 47 percent, which is ahead of schedule. Inclusion on this list is further evidence that our long-term efforts aimed at lowering our carbon emissions are yielding results,” says Anders Danielsson, CEO of Skanska.

The methodology and focus of the review are described here:

“We welcome even closer scrutiny of the companies that have announced climate targets. It is needed. It is needed to raise awareness and spread knowledge. Since the autumn of 2021, our climate targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative. In addition to reducing our own emissions, the goal is to halve the emissions in the value chain between 2020 and 2030 for our in-house developed projects. It is during the production of materials and the energy consumption of buildings where the large emissions occur,” says Lena Hök, EVP Sustainability and Innovation.

Skanska annually reports carbon dioxide emissions in its Annual and Sustainability Report as well as key figures in the quarterly report.
