National Governors Association Highlights Infrastructure Resources at Winter Meeting

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg joined Governors Larry Hogan of Maryland, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas for a discussion on infrastructure at the National Governors Association Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON – As Governors convene in Washington for the 114th annual National Governors Association Winter Meeting, NGA has launched a resource site providing information and tools for Governors as they implement the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in their states and territories. NGA is making the resource page available as Governors begin the task of delivering more convenient, safer and smarter systems that will serve Americans now and for generations to come.

NGA Chairman and Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson said: “NGA is supporting Governors as they make long-term investments in their states’ and territories’ infrastructure to realize the benefits of the bipartisan infrastructure law. States and territories have been on the leading edge of creative strategies to modernize and build infrastructure, and we’re pleased that the federal government is a full partner in this effort that’s so important to our economy and quality of life for all Americans.”

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg met with Governors during the Winter Meeting to discuss helping to make the IIJA deliver on its promises of safety, resilience and economic stimulus.

During the Winter Meeting, White House officials are sharing with Governors IIJA guidebooks, which will be publicly released next week.

Gov. Hutchinson noted Governors’ long-term, bipartisan support and advocacy for federal legislation to invest in infrastructure and a stronger federal-state partnership on the issue, citing the organization’s work over the years.

In July 2019, then-NGA Chair and Maryland Governor Larry Hogan launched his 2020 Chairman’s Initiative, “Infrastructure: Foundation for Success.” The final report of the initiative included a set of recommendations identifying key priorities that Congress and the Administration should address.

In 2019, NGA also released a series of principles intended to help strengthen the state-federal partnership on infrastructure.
