OMAHA, Neb. — With more than 30 years of experience in the intelligent transportation systems and transportation industry, Pete Marshall, P.E., PTOE, has joined HDR as the ITS technology program development lead.

ITS technologies include state-of-the-art communications, electronic and automated technologies to integrate vehicles, system users and infrastructure. In his new role, Marshall will align clients’ needs with HDR’s deep expertise in connected, automated, electric and shared mobility, smart infrastructure, data analytics, ITS and traffic management systems. He will lead the development and implementation of customized, smart mobility solutions that enhance the user experience and maximize available funding.

“I think right now we are at an inflection point where computer and communications technology has advanced so far that interest and adaption in the transportation space is exploding,” Marshall said. “The challenge is to choose wisely between the most promising technologies.”

Working in tandem with Joey Yang, HDR’s director of advanced technologies for surface transportation, Marshall will facilitate an environment in which HDR staff and clients continue their technical development. His work will include proactive management of large, complex programs, providing technical expertise throughout project delivery.

Marshall’s diverse background includes experience in program and system management, operations and maintenance; system procurement and integration; software development; connected vehicles, electronic tolling; traffic signal timing and operations; traffic analysis and simulation modeling; infrastructure design and systems engineering.

Marshall is currently collaborating with HDR ITS professionals in Florida on the innovative SW 10th Street Connector in Fort Lauderdale, in addition to work on a number of other ITS projects throughout the U.S. He will be based in HDR’s office in Salt Lake City, Utah.

“ITS is all about safer, smarter, more equitable transportation and Peter brings the expertise to help our clients deliver better systems for their users,” said Mobility & Operational Technology Services Director Ben Pierce. “With the new infrastructure funding package, there are a multitude of opportunities to incorporate emerging technologies into new and existing systems. Pete’s ITS experience will be invaluable to clients trying to effectively and efficiently plan for the future.”
