Skanska has signed a contract with Tampere Region Central Wastewater Treatment Plant to carry out piping and machinery project for a wastewater treatment plant in Tampere, Finland. The contract is worth EUR 45M, about SEK 460M, which will be included in the Nordic order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2021.

The project consists of building and installing piping and machinery for the new wastewater treatment plant. The treatment plant will be an active sludge plant based on simultaneous precipitation, in which wastewater is treated mechanically, chemically, and biologically. Wastewater will be treated with more modern and efficient technology that will also allow to remove nitrogen from the water at a larger extent. The plant will serve Tampere as well as several neighboring municipalities.

The construction is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2022, and it is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2026.

Skanska has been part of this wastewater treatment plant project since 2019 by carrying out extensive excavations for the wastewater treatment plant.
