South Australia’s Transport Planning Criticized
Civic Trust chairman Darian Hiles said he supported the State Government’s transport plan’s emphasis on improving public transport but said it was “locked into” flawed policy directions, including making residential development along major arterial roads and freight routes more dense.
“The current State Government has, until only a few months ago, refused to prepare the transport plan that is strongly advocated by transport experts and its own transport department and has now hastily produced an inadequate and superficial plan that calls into question much of its own research, assumptions and analysis,” he said.
