HDR’s Alexa Mitchell Promoted to Transportation BIM Program Manager
OMAHA, Neb. — With more than 20 years of innovative digital project delivery experience in the field and in technical guidance, Alexa Mitchell, P.E., has been promoted to HDR’s transportation BIM program manager.
Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Mitchell will help our clients adeptly navigate the changing environment of building information modeling and its impacts on project delivery. Whether determining the proper data workflow, using a 3D model as the legal design document, or helping in construction and asset management, her guidance will add value to the entire project life cycle of complex infrastructure projects.
“There are tremendous opportunities to leverage digital data to inform decisions during design and construction but also in the operation phase,” Mitchell said. “Our industry is making great strides in BIM, and with new open standards, it is going to be much easier to collaborate and provide digital information that can be used to improve the project delivery process from start to finish.”
Most recently serving as our highways and roads BIM director, Mitchell provided strategic BIM support and technical expertise for many of HDR’s most complex highways and bridge BIM consulting efforts. She is currently involved in the delivery of several industry-shaping studies and projects, including the Transportation Research Board’s TFRS-02 Lifecycle BIM for Infrastructure: A Business Case for Project Delivery and Asset Management, which evaluates the business case for BIM in the U.S as well as the U.S. BIM for Bridges and Structures Pooled Fund program. State Department of Transportation projects that are paving the way for digital delivery adoption include the PennDOT Digital Delivery 2025 Initiative as well as the creation of Utah DOT’s Model Development Specifications.
Mitchell spent 16 years with the Missouri DOT and assisted Federal Highway Administration in the development of technical guidance documents and policies for BIM. Today, she collaborates with other BIM experts through her involvement with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ Joint Technical Committee on Electronic Engineering Standards, Transportation Research Board, the Highway Engineering Exchange Program and buildingSMART.
