Dallas, TX – TSX, NYSE: STN: Leading global design firm Stantec has been selected by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to provide design engineering services for the expansion of US 80 from Belt Line Road to Lawson Road in Dallas. With a construction cost of nearly $180 million, the firm will expand the five-mile stretch of highway from four to six lanes to increase road capacity and improve mobility and safety.

In addition to roadway design, Stantec’s scope of work also includes the design of bridges, drainage systems, frontage road reconstruction, retaining walls, traffic signals, traffic control plans, and an intelligent transportation system. The firm will also conduct site surveys, geotechnical data collection, and sub surface utility engineering. Stantec will serve as project manager throughout the project.

A key component of the expansion will involve the reversal of one US 80 underpass to overpass bridge. The new overpass bridge is part of a TxDOT initiative to increase mobility for freight and shipping networks and improve safety for all motorists.

“The Dallas community continues to grow exponentially year after year, and with that growth comes a need for improved and expanded infrastructure,” said Cliff Hall, vice president, Texas transportation practice leader at Stantec. “We’re proud to work with TxDOT to provide services that will improve mobility and safety along this key highway in our city.”

Stantec has a long history of delivering transportation projects for TxDOT. In 2018, the firm completed the preliminary design and environmental clearance for the SH 121 expansion project—a widening of 9.5 miles of two-lane highway into a four-lane divided highway with grade separated interchanges. The firm is also designing the widening and reconstruction of 15.8 miles of IH 35 in Denton County—a project that includes the reversal of nine underpasses to overpass bridges, 84 retaining walls, five overpass and underpass bridge reconstructions, and 17 bridges over waterways. Stantec is ranked by Engineering News-Record as a Top 10 Design Firm in Transportation, Bridges, Highways.

The designs for the US 80 expansion are estimated to be completed by the end of 2022. Find out more about Stantec’s transportation services here.
