Recent Awards Continue Strong Record of Successful Applications in FTA’s CIG Program

OMAHA, Neb. — HDR’s transit and grant experts have helped a trio of agencies recently secure a combined $1.23 billion in federal grant awards for four capital projects. The recent funding from the Federal Transit Administration’s Capital Investment Grant program will contribute to $3.1 billion in total construction costs for these major projects.

The four projects represent major extensions of three transportation systems, expanding access and mobility options for millions of residents, improving safety and reducing travel times. Together, the projects will add nearly 34 miles of light rail, streetcar and commuter rail track in Phoenix, Arizona; Kansas City, Missouri; and Northern Indiana serving downtown Chicago.

The CIG program funds transit capital investments including heavy rail, commuter rail, light rail, streetcars and bus rapid transit systems. With the execution of the most recent grants, HDR has assisted clients in securing 16 of 33 CIG funding grants awarded by FTA since 2017.

HDR’s funding advisory experts assist agencies in the CIG process as needed during planning, environmental and design phases of a project, as well as part of program management responsibilities. Working closely with transit agency staff, the HDR team helps prepare key documentation and rating materials, coordinates with FTA staff and project management oversight consultants, prepares and updates financial plans and more.

“These projects will improve mobility for residents, spur economic development, create jobs and connect communities with accessible, safe and equitable transit,” said HDR Global Transit Director Tom Waldron. “It’s gratifying to see HDR play such a key role in obtaining funding for these transformative transit expansions, and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with our clients as their projects move to completion and become available to their customers.”
