Virtual 3D cities and geodesign in 3D are hot topics these days, and with new and upcoming technology the ability to not just view cityscapes, but do meaningful work, design, and planning around them, is increasingly becoming possible – and more portable. At the recent Esri Developer Summit new capabilities coming in ArcGIS Explorer Desktop (in the 2012 release, later this year) were showcased. These included the ability to have your entire virtual city, including the software used to view and analyze it, completely portable – even pocketable on a thumb drive. Another view into the future was provided with a prototype showing the integration of Esri CityEngine within the ArcGIS Online map viewer. Read More via Esri
