AEIS Completes Inspection and Testing on New Terminal B at LaGuardia Airport
Leading inspection and testing company selected to increase safety through quality assurance as part of $4 billion Queens airport project
New York, NY — Atlas Evaluation & Inspection Services (AEIS), a leading testing, inspection and certification company based in South Plainfield, NJ, has completed testing and inspection on LaGuardia Airport’s new Terminal B Headhouse, an ultramodern 840,000 square-foot, four-story building that replaces the Central Terminal Building and a former parking garage. As part of the $8-billion LaGuardia International Airport redevelopment program, the new $4-billion new Terminal B will serve as an easily-navigable entry point for passengers departing from the terminal.
As a leading special inspection agency in the New York Metro area, AEIS was selected to provide special inspections and material testing services to ensure compliance consistent with local building codes and quality requirements of the project. Inspection and testing are valuable tools in ensuring that newly-constructed infrastructure is built in a safe manner, and that any underlying problems may be resolved. By providing quality assurance, safety may be increased.
“As the new Terminal B at LaGuardia Airport is transformed into a world-class transportation hub, safety and quality are of utmost importance to ensure the project’s long-term success,” stated Nagesh Goel, President and Co-Founder of AEIS. “Inspection and testing are critical ways to ensure new buildings and infrastructure are as safe as possible. Ensuring quality and public safety is our number-one priority. For over a decade, AEIS has provided inspection, testing and evaluation services across the tri-state area and the nation to create optimally safe outcomes and continual improvements in clients’ products and services. AEIS is proud to partner with Skanska-Walsh Design-Build Joint Venture, LaGuardia Gateway Partners, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on this important project.”
AEIS’ inspection work included performing inspections on deep foundation piles, soils, steel, concrete, masonry, fireproofing, fire stopping, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical aspects. Lead by AEIS Vice President Manan Shah, PE, a team of over 75 engineers and inspectors performed special inspections and testing on the project. AEIS worked closely with Skanska Walsh, LaGuardia Gateway Partners, and the project design joint venture team of HOK, WSP, and Thornton Tomasetti to expedite deficiency resolution and provide technical insight.
Home to four airlines serving almost 15 million travelers each year, LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B recently completed a massive renovation and reconstruction. Lead by LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP), the organization selected by Governor Cuomo and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to rebuild and operate the $4 billion project, Terminal B’s first sixteen gates are now open.
AEIS is currently providing inspection and evaluation services for Delta Airlines on LaGuardia Airport’s Concourse E and the new Terminal C Headhouse, a long-term project with an expected 2023 completion date.
LaGuardia Airport is located in northern Queens in New York City and opened as an airport in 1939, known as Glenn H. Curtiss Airport, then North Beach Airport. It was renamed LaGuardia Airport after the New York City mayor, Fiorello La Guardia, in 1953. Today, LaGuardia Airport is one of New York’s most popular airports with over 30 million passengers each year.
