CGI to Supply Data Services for the GB Smart Meter Implementation Programme
CGI announced that it was chosen by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) as the data service provider for the Data Communications Company (DCC) subject to contract negotiations. CGI will develop and operate the solution that will link gas and electricity meters with the business systems of utility companies needed to deliver the GBP 6.7 billon of consumer,economic and environmental net benefits of smart metering.
CGI will design, build, run, host and support the DCC Data Services.The services provided by CGI will support the 53 million smart metersthat will be deployed in people’s homes and small business between2015 and 2020. The secure service will enable utilities to accessinformation on energy usage to provide accurate bills, enable theircustomers to better understand their energy use patterns and providethem with the tariffs that best suit their lifestyles. The solutionwill be scalable and flexible to enable the DCC to respond toBritain’s evolving energy needs.

This contract builds on CGI’s experience of delivering smart meteringdata services based on its Instant Energy solution to eight utilitiesoperating in the British market and over 30 years of working with theutilities sector, including building and running ten of the sixteencentral energy market solutions currently in operation across theglobe.
The Service will be delivered by CGI working alongside provenpartners such as security specialist QinetiQ. CGI will providesupport to the DCC from its shared services centres in South Walesincluding its award winning 5 star service desk(i).
