Krishnan to Lead National Maritime Business for WSP USA
New senior vice president brings a quarter century of engineering expertise to new role collaborating with marine terminal operators, port authorities, the U.S. Navy and construction contractors.
NEW YORK CITY (May 18, 2020) — As the U.S. maritime industry looks to advance infrastructure to remain economically competitive on domestic and international levels, address resiliency, improve the “first-and-last mile” connections and develop cutting-edge landside facilities, WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy, is supporting those goals with enhancements to its maritime business, most recently through the arrival of Kosal Krishnan as the firm’s national maritime leader.
As a senior vice president, Krishnan will work with U.S. and international port authorities, marine terminal operators, the U.S. Navy, local municipalities, shipyards and construction contractors, overseeing our talented project delivery team to support the full life cycle of their maritime projects through successful delivery.

With over 300 maritime projects successfully completed recently in more than 65 countries, WSP’s maritime specialists are dedicated to the planning, design, and construction of port facilities, marine infrastructure, and coastal facilities, using the latest technology to deliver Future ReadyTM solutions. The firm’s maritime team has worked together on significant projects for Port Miami, Port of Portland, Port of Seattle and the Port Everglades Turning Notch in Fort Lauderdale, a $437.5 million expansion project to add new berths for larger cargo ships and installing crane rail infrastructure for new Super Post-Panamax cranes in addition to delivering several critical projects for the U.S. Navy.
Prior to joining WSP, Krishnan served as Southern California operations manager and West region maritime leader for an international engineering firm. His maritime experience includes work on container terminals, oil terminals, naval piers, buildings and site development for port authorities. He has managed several projects for the Port of Long Beach (POLB), Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the U.S. Navy.
Krishnan earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at Anna University in Chennai, India; a master’s degree in civil engineering at University of California at Berkeley; and a doctorate in structural engineering from the University of California at San Diego.
He has published several technical papers in industry journals and is an active member of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute, the American Society of Civil Engineers, where he serves on the Standards Committee for the Seismic Design of Piers and Wharves, and the American Concrete Institute. Kosal currently serves as the Chair of the Industry Advisory Board for the Structural Engineering department at the University of California, San Diego.
