The global geosynthetics firm is offering educational resources to build next generation expertise.

(ATLANTA, GA) May 22, 2020 – Tensar International, a leading geosynthetic products innovator known for its unique geogrid solutions, is offering two $1000 scholarships to engineering students who compete in a construction design challenge. The scholarship is one component of the company’s ongoing professional education efforts to share the expertise behind its geogrid technology and its 40-year history working with the global civil engineering community.

As part of this educational program, Tensar is also offering free design software, course materials and other resources for engineering faculty as they educate the next generation of civil engineers in subject areas relevant to Tensar operations. Available online, these educational resources include presentations and class notes, in geosynthetics. Faculty can also download Tensar’s SpectraPave Design Software and TensarSoil Design Software packages to give students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience designing unpaved roads, flexible pavement and MSE retaining walls and slopes.

“The scholarship and faculty support program introduce students to geosynthetic technology and products while they are still in school, so that they will learn real world applications of their coursework and be ready to design longer lasting, more resilient roads and infrastructure when they begin their professional careers,” says Bryan Gee, P.E., Director of Education and Training at Tensar. “We know our future growth – and the efficient improvement of transportation infrastructure – depends on providing our technology and expertise across the engineering profession. With this scholarship and curriculum program, we support the continuing education of the future engineers who will design projects that make our world a better place.”

To qualify for scholarship consideration, students must complete a design challenge in one of two categories – flexible pavement or MSE wall – by June 15, 2020. Interested students can visit the website to download the design challenge instructions and free Tensar design software to complete their entries. Each scholarship entry will be evaluated based on the candidate’s success in meeting design objectives, proper application of Tensar products and systems as well as the quality and completeness of his or her presentation, creativity of design approach and overall attention to detail. One winner will be selected for each design challenge category.

The deadline for scholarship entries is June 15, 2020. Please review the Official Rules for more information.
