Gannett Fleming Receives ACEC National Recognition

Known as the “Academy Awards of the Engineering Industry,” the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) recently awarded five 2020 ACEC National Recognition Awards to Gannett Fleming project teams.

 

Five Project Teams Presented with 2020 Engineering Excellence Awards

(Harrisburg, Pa.) Known as the “Academy Awards of the Engineering Industry,” the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) recently awarded five 2020 ACEC National Recognition Awards to Gannett Fleming project teams.  

The illustrious projects include: the Buckeye Lake Dam Improvements project; the Delaware County Regional Water Quality Control Authority’s (DELCORA) Pump Station 6; the I-95: Sections D10 and D20 project; the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Enhanced Station Initiative project; and the Pikes Creek Dam Rehabilitation project.

The Buckeye Lake Dam Improvements project features an innovative design that protected a Class I high-hazard-potential dam from catastrophic failure. The project team recently received the 2020 ACEC Ohio Outstanding Achievement Award and the 2019 Association of State Dam Safety Officials National Rehabilitation Project of the Year Award.

DELCORA Pump Station 6 is a pioneering wastewater collections facility that puts the focus on effectiveness, safety, and resiliency. Recent awards include the 2020 ACEC Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA) Grand Conceptor Award and the 2019 Engineering News-Record MidAtlantic Regional Best Projects Award of Merit. 

Completion of the I-95: Sections D10 and D20 project in southeastern Pennsylvania alleviated congestion and closed a 16-mile gap along America’s longest north-south interstate. Recently, ACEC/PA awarded the project team with the 2020 Transportation Diamond Award. 

The LIRR Enhanced Station Initiative project is an ambitious improvement program that reimagines rail stations to enhance transit in New York. The project team received numerous recognitions, including the 2020 ACEC New York Diamond Award and the 2019 American Institute of Architects Long Island Chapter Archi Award for Historic Restoration/Adaptive Reuse for the Farmingdale Station. 

The Pikes Creek Dam Rehabilitation project features a leading-edge spillway system that strengthens critical infrastructure and prevents overtopping. ACEC/PA recently presented the 2020 Water Resources Diamond Award to the Gannett Fleming project team. 

According to their website, ACEC received more than 200 entries “representing engineering excellence from throughout the nation and the world. Judging for the awards program…was conducted by a national 35-member panel of built environment leaders, along with experts from government, the media and academia. Award criteria focused on uniqueness and originality, technical innovation, social and economic value, and generating excitement for the engineering profession.”
