SEATTLE — Greg Banks has been named bridge and structures manager for the Pacific Northwest District of WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy.

In his new position, Banks will be responsible for securing and delivering structural engineering work for transportation projects in Oregon, Washington, Hawaii and Alaska. He will lead major bridge projects and manage, grow, and develop the firm’s structures team in the district.

“Greg exhibits a passion for bridge engineering and outstanding leadership qualities that will be ideal for his new role at WSP,” said Nathan Johnson, West Region structures manager at WSP. “He welcomes his new leadership responsibilities and the opportunity to maximize potential of our bridge and structures team in the Pacific Northwest District.”

Banks, who joined the firm in 2004, brings nearly two decades of engineering experience to his new leadership role, with specialties in major bridge design, project development, and construction support for conventional and alternative delivery projects. Most recently, Banks served as a structures group manager, leading multi-discipline teams to complete structure-centered projects.

He served in a primary design capacity for several major bridge projects, including the State Route 520 Floating Bridge segmental approach structures in Medina, Washington; seismic retrofit of the historic Ballard Bridge in Seattle; and the analysis and design of Boeing North Bridge, a multi-span steel plate girder bridge in Renton, Washington, spanning the Cedar River and connecting Boeing’s factory to the Renton Airport.

Banks is a graduate of the University of Washington where he received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in civil engineering. He also serves as adjunct faculty, teaching graduate studies of bridge engineering and has published technical papers and journals on the topics of accelerated bridge construction, bridge seismic evaluation, bridge replacement, retrofit and rehabilitation.
