Since 1995, WSP has supported FEMA as a nationwide housing inspections services contractor, inspecting homes damaged during presidentially declared emergencies or natural disasters.

WINCHESTER, VA  — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has renewed its housing inspection services (HIS) contract through 2024 with WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy.

Under the contract, WSP is required to maintain a culture of preparedness for timely mobilization in the event of a national emergency or natural disaster, use a scalable deployment model to maintain capacity efficiently, and use technology to monitor and improve performance and quality.

“Whether a disaster covers one county or an entire state; whether located in a single area or in multiple areas, the ability to respond quickly is fundamental to a successful declaration process,” said Greg Reynolds, WSP senior vice president and HIS project director. “The full resources of our organization are available to meet the necessary and time-critical requirements of this contract, within and outside the continental U.S.”

WSP employs more than 45,000 people globally and across the U.S. who can be called upon to support and mobilize field teams over a wide geographic area.

Since 1995, WSP has provided program management and inspection services to FEMA through four consecutive housing inspection contracts, responding to 344 task orders and delivering over 6.8 million inspections in every FEMA region. Recent support services included housing inspections for recovery efforts following hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria in the Southeastern U.S. and Puerto Rico in late summer 2017.

The firm maintains a robust database of highly qualified inspectors; a dedicated, responsive operations and quality team, and experienced leadership ready to provide FEMA with the inspection services necessary to support its mission and assist disaster survivors in their time of need.

“We are proud of our work to date, but our focus is on the future of FEMA and its vision of a prepared and resilient nation,” said Jess Commerford, chief operating officer of WSP’s federal programs and logistics (FP&L) business. “The nature of the disasters to which we respond has evolved. They are bigger, more complex, longer lasting—and they happen in a context of an America where people and technology are constantly on the move. We must continually improve and learn to prepare for what’s ahead. To achieve that objective, WSP’s expanded FP&L business offers comprehensive services to federal government clients from a single source.”

WSP’s commitment to Future ReadyTM helps clients and their customers understand the trends they face, and plan for them today. WSP will focus its resources on driving innovation and leadership in all aspects of the program to create efficiencies, reduce costs and advance operational capabilities—all while delivering timely, quality inspections.

“WSP shares FEMA’s strategic vision of a prepared, resilient nation and streamlined recovery solutions for its citizens,” Reynolds said. “We view this HIS contract as our solemn obligation to be met without fail. WSP will support this vision through innovative, forward-looking and dedicated service.”
