The group supports the International Organization for Standardization and helps further the nation’s position on asset management standards.

DAYTON, Ohio — Woolpert Strategic Asset Management Subject Matter Expert Shiv Iyer, Ph.D., PE, PMP, MIAM, has been elected vice chair of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 251.

ISO is an independent, non-governmental international organization with members from 164 countries. ISO/TC 251 is the committee dedicated to refining and advancing the set of ISO 55000 standards, which provide asset management structure, requirements, best practices and guidance for organizations around the world.

The U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) represents the nation on these standards, sharing and advancing U.S. interests, while working with other countries to support the objectives of ISO/TC 251. The group gathered in China in May to discuss the ISO Technical Specialization (TS) 55010 guideline, which was then published in October. ISO/TS 55010 enables organizations to better understand how the alignment between financial and non-financial functions is important in realizing value from assets.

“It’s important for us to take a holistic, life-cycle view of the physical infrastructure we manage,” Iyer said. “Asset management provides the framework to view and evaluate the many different types of assets an organization manages at their various phases. This not only improves the value of an organization’s assets but improves overall business efficiencies.”

Iyer is one of 40 members on the U.S. TAG for ISO/TC 251, which met for its eighth plenary meeting Nov. 10-15 in Quito, Ecuador. At the meeting, Iyer was nominated to head the U.S. delegation. Iyer said that it is a privilege to be part of this group of experts who are excited about shaping the asset management industry.

“We are constantly exchanging ideas and learning personally and professionally, exploring and implementing ways to help organizations across multiple sectors reap the benefits of asset management strategies worldwide,” Iyer said. “I’m also honored to represent Woolpert in this capacity, and to provide our staff with a peek into what these global experts are thinking so we can pass that additional value on to our clients.”

Iyer is the latest Woolpert employee selected to serve on an ISO committee. Last year, Woolpert Market Director Eric Dillinger and Project Manager Emily Seamster, both members of the firm’s Strategic Consulting group, were appointed to ISO/TC 267, which supports the ISO 41000 family of standards for Facility Management.
