BOSTON  – Today HNTB Corporation marks its 65th anniversary of service to transportation agencies in Massachusetts. The firm’s presence began with the opening of an office in Boston in 1954. HNTB has operated continuously since then serving numerous local public and private clients, including the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, Massachusetts Department of Transportation and Massachusetts Port Authority. Currently HNTB has two locations in Massachusetts, including Boston and Chelmsford, and employs approximately 200 professionals.

HNTB has played a significant role in delivering major elements of Massachusetts’ transportation infrastructure network, including Boston’s iconic Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge, John Greenleaf Whittier Bridge, the Massachusetts Bay Area Transportation Authority’s Green Line Extension, Boston’s Casey Arborway project, Fitchburg Commuter Rail Line Rehabilitation and numerous major projects throughout New England, such as the Portsmouth (NH) Memorial Bridge Design-Build Replacement.

HNTB’s expertise in design, program management and construction management of highways and bridges, transit and rail, aviation, toll facilities, and tunnels is helping transportation agencies address and manage transportation infrastructure and mobility challenges as the region continues to grow. Since 1954, the Commonwealth’s population has grown from approximately 4.7 million to almost 7 million.

“Massachusetts is experiencing tremendous opportunity for investment in transportation with many new highway, transit and bridge projects across the state,” said HNTB Northeast Division President Phil Brake, PE. “Our talented engineers, planners and construction managers have the expertise and dedication to help transportation agencies make the most of these investments and bring relief to commuters across the region and throughout the state of Massachusetts, whether that’s by air, car or public transit.”

HNTB’s employees are active in many industry and civic organizations, including Massachusetts’ chapters of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers, American Council of Engineering Companies, Construction Management Association of America, International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association, Women’s Transportation Seminar, and Conference of Minority Transportation Officials as well as Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, New England Council, Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, and A Better City.

The firm is committed to helping the region grow and prosper. To meet clients’ demand for continuing mobility improvements, HNTB employs talented professionals to work on the Commonwealth’s major transportation projects and programs.
