PHILADELPHIA  – HNTB Corporation is today celebrating the 25th anniversary of a permanent office presence in Pennsylvania. The firm’s work in the commonwealth, however, can be traced back to the 1930s when it designed the Burlington-Bristol Bridge over the Delaware River between Burlington, NJ, and Bristol Township, Pa. Over the decades, the firm has supported Pennsylvania’s transportation agencies and other public and private clients in delivering mobility solutions that power local economies and strengthen communities.

A contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to consult on intelligent transportation systems established the firm’s permanent presence in Pennsylvania in 1994 with a small office in Plymouth Meeting. Since then, HNTB has worked on projects across the Commonwealth, and today employs more than 160 multidisciplinary professionals in five Pennsylvania office locations, including Philadelphia, King of Prussia, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and Allentown.

Through planning, design and construction, HNTB has made significant contributions to Pennsylvania’s transportation infrastructure with our clients, including: Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, Delaware River Port Authority, Amtrak, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, Allegheny County and the City of Philadelphia.  Recent award-winning projects include the Benjamin Franklin Bridge Rehabilitation in Philadelphia, Bessemer Avenue Bridge Replacement in Pittsburgh, the Philip J. Fahy Memorial Bridge Rehabilitation in Bethlehem, and the Lansdale Station and Parking Garage Project in Lansdale.

“Improving quality of life, kindling economic vibrancy and ensuring a bright future for all Pennsylvanians depends on a robust, sustainable transportation network,” said Greg May, PE, vice president and Pennsylvania office leader for HNTB. “We’re proud of our 25-year office presence and our historic 90-year legacy of helping communities across Pennsylvania solve pressing and complex mobility challenges, and we’re committed to continued collaboration and innovation that moves them forward.”

In addition to critical transportation projects, HNTB employees in Pennsylvania support many industry organizations, including the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Public Transportation Association, American Society of Highway Engineers, American Railway Engineering & Maintenance-of-Way Association, Conference of Minority Transportation Officials, Women’s Transportation Seminar, Intelligent Transportation Society of America and others.

HNTB’s commitment to helping the region prosper also is reflected in the firm’s growth. HNTB seeks talented professionals to work on major programs. Positions will be filled in civil, mechanical and electrical engineering, roadway design, bridge design and inspection, as well as rail and transit infrastructure and systems design, architecture and transportation facilities design. HNTB also is hiring for program, project and construction management, intelligent transportation systems and more.
