Anna Barry, former Connecticut Department of Transportation deputy commissioner, joins HNTB in Boston

Barry brings extensive executive leadership and program management experience with rail and bus transit as well as infrastructure asset management

 
BOSTON – Anna Barry joined HNTB Corporation as program manager and vice president, based in the firm’s Massachusetts office, located in Boston. She is responsible for leading transportation programs for HNTB’ s clients including the MBTA and MassDOT. 

“Anna is a highly regarded leader with extensive knowledge of rail and bus transit programs as well as our region’s transportation infrastructure assets,” said Gary Bua, PE, HNTB’s Massachusetts office leader and senior vice president. “She is a talented and sought-after transportation leader who will help manage critical transportation challenges across our region.” 

Barry comes to HNTB with more than 40 years of transportation experience. Most recently she served as deputy commissioner for the Connecticut Department of Transportation, acting as that agency’s chief operating officer helping to improve and expand Connecticut’s intermodal system. There she helped deliver the CTfastrak bus rapid transit program, the Hartford Line high speed rail program and Walk Bridge program, among others.

Prior to joining CTDOT, Barry served as a leader at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority for almost 25 years in a variety of management positions. Barry also served in operational roles for the Boston and Maine Railroad, and for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ joint legislative committee on transportation.

A graduate of Suffolk University Law School, Barry hold as J.D. degree and is a member of the Massachusetts Bar. She is a cum laude graduate of Boston College with a bachelor’s degree in English. 

Barry is an active member of the Women’s Transportation Seminar, receiving honors from the Boston and Connecticut chapters. She is involved in the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials, the American Public Transportation Association and the Transportation Research Board. She is chair of TRB’s Transit Research Analysis Committee, immediate past chair of APTA’s High Speed and Intercity Passenger Rail Committee and recently ended her service as at-large transit member of the APTA Board of Directors.

Zakim Bridge, Massachusetts Turnpike, John Greenleaf Whittier Bridge, expansion of South Station, and Fitchburg commuter rail line, among others.
