On July 9, USGBC announced a 2019 call for proposals to solicit feedback and concepts for the future of LEED. USGBC is exploring how we can strengthen LEED v4.1 and plan what’s next for the rating system. We are working to ensure that LEED remains a global leadership standard, and we know that as we evolve LEED, industry feedback and support are critical.
The call for proposals is a new addition to the process of developing LEED. A similar call in 2018 yielded over 250 significant ideas for the evolution of LEED. USGBC was able to use many of these in LEED v4.1, and will include those outside of the scope of LEED v4.1 in this next round of proposal review. Learn more about the 2018 call for proposals.
LEED’s trajectory continues to improve performance throughout the life cycle of buildings, to advance net zero and net positive practices, and to reward leaders based on their performance to enable building owners and city leaders to track progress toward environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals. USGBC encourages anyone from our community to contribute their ideas by participating in the call for LEED proposals.
Industry leaders can also join USGBC at the annual Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, taking place in Atlanta, Nov. 19–22 for the “Future of LEED” education session, which will review the market feedback from the call for proposals and provide updates on performance-based outcomes, transparency and continuous improvement to future versions of LEED.
