ATLANTA  — Woolpert has hired Chad Johnson as program director for its Information Technology Management Consulting (ITMC) market. Johnson is experienced in overseeing complex information technology implementation projects for utility companies, working from analysis through delivery, and holds multiple Oracle Utilities certifications. In his new role, Johnson will lead Woolpert’s Oracle software implementation capabilities.

“Woolpert already has established itself as a leader in providing asset management software, consulting and support,” Johnson said. “I’m excited to provide navigation for the firm to extend its expertise.”

In addition to Oracle Utilities Smart Grid Gateway and Meter Data Management, Johnson is well-versed in multiple adjacent geospatial technologies. He has provided Oracle Utilities implementations for electric, water, gas and multiservice utilities, supporting a variety of business requirements for utility companies. Most recently, Johnson worked for Icon Water in Canberra, Australia, a water and wastewater public utility company with assets worth more than $2.2 billion. He led the integration of an Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Management (WAM) implementation with Oracle Utilities Mobile Workforce Management (MWM), Oracle E-Business Suite, Esri GIS, and an array of internal applications to support Icon’s vision in realizing the true value of their assets and enhancing their ability to schedule work.

Johnson said Smart Grid technology, which uses digital technologies to connect utilities and customer assets, is changing the game for electric, gas and water companies worldwide. For example, incorporating outage and customer portal data into asset management and mobile workforce management systems is setting the roadmap for the future.

“We’re bridging the gap between IT and OT—information technology and operational technology—providing a more holistic view of the utilities and enabling management to understand the entire enterprise of the company,” Johnson said. “What we do is we ascertain what the client’s overall needs are, determine the extent of the implementation they’re seeking, and define their resources and training needs. Then, we can match that client with the software and system that is right for them.

“We are vendor agnostic. So, regardless of the software solution, we are focused on delivering sustainable systems that make data-driven decisions,” he said.

Woolpert Vice President and ITMC Market Director Dave Feuer said Johnson’s experience leading the firm’s growing Oracle Utilities WAM portfolio is a differentiator.

“Our clients are getting a proven leader to guide the latest Oracle Utilities solutions,” Feuer said. “Chad’s expertise, combined with our asset management expertise across the firm, is truly unique in the industry.”
