HNTB, Clients and Partners Celebrate Projects Recognized at ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards Gala

HNTB involved with ten projects recognized as winners at “Academy Awards” of engineering industry – including the year’s best

KANSAS CITY – HNTB Corporation joined clients and partners in celebrating project collaborations, coast to coast, that earned recognition May 7 at the American Council of Engineering Companies’ annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala in Washington, D.C.  The winning projects reflect outstanding engineering achievement and are delivering mobility benefits that strengthen the communities they serve.

From among dozens of winners, HNTB was involved with ten recognized projects, including the Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program in Seattle, which won the prestigious 2019 Grand Conceptor Award for the year’s best overall engineering accomplishment.

Serving as lead designer and engineer of record for the complex project, HNTB was responsible for design of the 2-mile-long bored mega-tunnel. The firm designed the permanent structures and facilities, including the tunnel liner, the interior stacked roadway structure, approach cut-and-cover tunnels, approach roadways and operations buildings located at each portal.

• Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, New York – Grand Award
• Riverside Drive and Gathering Place, Oklahoma – Honor Award
• American Center for Mobility, Michigan – Honor Award
• Jeremiah Morrow Bridge, Ohio – National Recognition Award
• Iowa City Gateway – Park Road Bridge & Dubuque St., Iowa – National Recognition Award
• CTA Wilson Transfer Station, Illinois – National Recognition Award
• Kansas Turnpike Open Road Tolling Conversion, Kansas – National Recognition Award
• Open Road Tolling Implementation 5 Bridges, New York – National Recognition Award
