Stockholm, Sweden: Epiroc AB, a leading productivity partner for the mining and infrastructure industries, is cooperating with Swedish company Railcare Group AB to equip its railway maintenance equipment with zero-emission battery technology.

Epiroc, on the forefront of electric underground mining equipment, has developed a battery-electric technology platform that is modular and scalable. Although the battery system is designed primarily with the mining industry in mind it is also well suited for other types of machines that operate in tough environments and are traditionally powered by diesel engines. As a result, Epiroc will start providing its electric driveline technology to Railcare and specifically the company’s MPV, Multi Purpose Vehicle.

“We are happy about this cooperation with Railcare as it is a natural step for Epiroc to collaborate around the technology that we have developed for our underground equipment,” said Helena Hedblom, Epiroc’s Senior Executive Vice President Mining & Infrastructure. “Cooperating with forward-thinking companies around the battery technology is important to drive volume and reduce costs. This will speed up the electrification process.”

“We continue to have a high level on our innovations and we are proud of the result of our cooperation with Epiroc,” said Daniel Öholm, Railcare’s CEO. “We will use their scalable platform for battery technology when we launch our first electric MPV. Many of our missions are for underground work, with high demands on safety, work environment and efficiency.”

Railcare is planning to make available its first machines using Epiroc’s battery technology later this year. To learn more about Railcare, please see its website (mainly in Swedish).
